Inspirations
Inspirations, 2017

My family has always
been the biggest inspiration for my work. I capture images that reflect my
current state of mind, even when I don’t intend to: they might show thanks one
day, and reflect emptiness the next. I was originally stuck on this project.
Feeling hopeless, I decided to reflect on my past work to look for inspiration.
I eventually decided to use my past work, but add a new spin to it.
The women in my life:
my sisters, mothers, grandmothers etc. have all helped me grow into the woman I
am today. They continually inspire me to be strong, kind, helpful, gentle, and
graceful. When reflecting, I realized that I have always been subliminally
drawn to photographing these amazing women. I decided to portray each of these
women in an element that shows the many ways they inspire me. I wanted to show
how their lives have impacted my own. I used watercolor atop of a digital print
to show the highs and lows each woman has endured that has inspired me to be
strong and poised even in my weakest moments.
Wow, I love the way the watercolor looks on top of the prints. It almost makes them look at though they are faded color film. Great way of getting out of a rut too - using old photos but making them into something new. My two favorites are the ones of Lindsey looking up with the blue surrounding her and the one with Claire in the hat surrounded by yellow. Lindsey feels very melancholy with the way her eyes peer upward and Claire embodies what it truly means to be a child; a young wonderer full of adventure and hope as she looks into the woods. I want to see more!!!
